Sr. Design Engineer

As the Sr. Design Engineer – Site Plan Group your role will entail participating in the development or redevelopment of properties, urban "brown field” sites, and greenfield properties. 
The projects include all types and sizes of development including: high and mid density condominium and townhouse residential, low density infill urban subdivisions, mixed use commercial, retail and office buildings, industrial buildings and institutional buildings. 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the completion of preliminary engineering analysis including design and earthworks strategies in support of due diligence analyses and development applications 
  • Lead the preparation of Functional Servicing Reports including data acquisition, analysis and report writing 
  • Lead the process of detail engineering design documents, grading and servicing designs, for subdivisions and site plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D 
  • Engineering analysis including sewer calculations, water modeling analysis and earthworks calculations 
  • Storm water management design and preparation of storm water management reports 
  • Support the project manager in meeting client needs on projects, including client contact as required 
  • Understand the clients business objectives on projects and assist in project budgeting and preparation of proposals 
  • Ensure quality and timely delivery of project deliverables to meet the client’s needs; 
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior engineers and other technical staff; 
  • Mentor junior staff and participate actively and formally in their development plans; 
  • Lead the QA/QC process for project deliverables. To ensure quality and timely delivery of project deliverables to meet the client’s needs 
  • Ensure that learning opportunities are capitalized on
  • Understand the client’s business objectives on projects 
  • Actively participate in regular workload and production meetings.

  • Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Professional Knowledge & Qualifications 
  • Civil design-related experience using AutoCAD and Civil3D
  • P.Eng. designation preferred or a CET with appropriate industry experience
  • 10+ years of detailed design experience in the land development industry, preferably in the Greater Toronto Area
  • High level of familiarity with various approval agencies, including design guidelines and standards (Local and Provincial)
  • High level of understanding of the planning process, the EA process, and the EC application process
  • Well-developed communication skills, both oral and written
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Creative and innovative thinker with sound technical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with colleagues, associates, and clients
  • Ability to effectively multi-task and work in fast paced, highly charged environment
  • Expected to complete tasks accurately and efficiently with minimum supervision
